TX Series

T 1

Applies to products for which the rate of cooling from an elevated temperature. And usually associated with extruded products and limited to the 6XXX series alloys.

T 2

Applies to cast products which are annealed to improve ductility and dimensional stability.

T 3

Applies to products which are cold worked to improve strength, or in which the effect of cold work. Solution heat-treated.
(T4+ cold work)

T 4

Applies to products which are not cold worked after solution heat-treatment, or in which the effect of cold work.

T 5

Applies to products which are cooled from an elevated temperature shaping process and artificially aged.
(T1+ artificial age)

T 6

Applies to products which are not cold worked after solution heat-treatment, or in which the effect of cold work.
(T4+ artificial age).

T 7

Applies to products which are stabilized to carry them beyond the point of maximum strength to provide control of some special characteristics.

T 8

Applies to products which are cold worked to improve strength, or in which the effect of cold work.
(T3+ artificial age).

T 9

Applies to products which are cold worked to improve strength. Solution heat-treated and cold worked. (T6+ artificial age)

T 10

Applies to products which are artificially aged after cooling from an elevated temperature shaping process and usually associated with cast products.
(T2+ artificial age)

TXY Series

T 361

Formerly designated T36. For stress-relieved tempers, the characteristics and properties other than those specified may differ somewhat from the corresponding characteristics and properties of material in the basic temper.

T 61

Solution heat treated and then artificially aged. Applies to forgings which receive a boiling water quench to avoid internal quenching stress. Applies to solution heat treated and artificially aged castings when more than one aging cycle is available for that alloy.

T 73

Solution heat treated and then specially artificially aged. Applies to 7075 alloys which have been specially aged to make the material resistant to stress-corrosion.

T 7352

Solution heat treated and specially artificially aged. Applies to 7075 alloy forgings which have both compression-stress relief and special aging to make the material resistant to stress-corrosion.

T 861

Formerly designated T86. For stress-relieved tempers, the characteristics and properties other than those specified may differ somewhat from the corresponding characteristics and properties of material in the basic temper.

T42

Solution heat-treated from the O or F temper by the user, or by the producer to demonstrate response to heat-treatment, and naturally aged to a substantially stable condition.

T 62

Solution heated treated from the O or F temper by the user, or by the producer to demonstrate response to heat-treatment, and artificially aged. Apply when available data indicate that any characteristic such as corrosion resistance, fatigue, or a mechanical property is significantly different from that for the T4 to T6 temper, respectively

T 51

Applies to cold finished rod or bar when stress-relieved by stretching to 1 to 3% permanent set. Stretching is performed after solution heat treatment or after cooling from an elevated temperature shaping process. No straightening takes place after stretching.

TX 510

Products that receive no further straightening after stretching

TX 511

Products that may receive minor straightening after stretching to comply with standard tolerances.

TX 52

Applies to products which are stress-relieved by compressing after solution heat-treatment, to produce a permanent set of 1 to 5%.

TX 54

Cooled from an elevated temperature shaping process, stress-relived by stretching and compressing and then artificially aged. Applies to die forgings which are stress-relieved by restriking cold in the finish die.
